MESSAGE FROM WIL's SPACE CAMP:Hello from Space Camp!
Well, Space Camp officially got underway with our arrival at about 3 p.m. Students received their team and room assignments, picked up their bedding, and then it was off to their room to unpack, try out their new lock, and make up their own bed. Yep- your camper had to put the sheets on their own bed! I'll admit that there were a few that knew their way around a fitted sheet, but the majority were puzzled, started wrestling the mattress, or just begged a LEAP teacher to do it for them (haha…no way!) I kept a straight face as I explained that they would thank me some day for empowering them to do things for themselves.
From there it was on to an orientation program that included students from other schools- and a large group of students from India! Rules and procedures were explained and students met their counselors. Team building started immediately as each group went off to discuss what their first mission would be, see a bit of the campus, have their first meal together (hamburgers and chips!), and see an IMAX movie. By now they should be sleeping after preparing for bed, making phone calls, and possibly taking a shower!
Our LEAP students are on five teams, Aldrin, Armstrong, Bean, Bluford, and Carpenter. Daily emails will generally cover activities your child participated in during the day, but be sure to check the leapteachers.shutterfly.com web site to see pictures, which have already been uploaded. Your child's team is in the subject line of this email.
Well, that's it for tonight.
